This page contains links to several important general manuals for the census. Except for the Tabulations, these are all developed by experts hired by the United Nations Statistical Division. The manuals include the overview of census work (The United Nations Principles and Recommendations), management, mapping and spatial display and analysis, and editing. The tabulation handbook provides state of the art information on development and dissemination of tables.

To assist National Statistical Offices in training new staff, the seven volumes of POPSTAN, the Census Bureau’s model country example, are included. Updated versions for 2010 and beyond, will be included as part of the POPHOUS project as they are developed.
