Data capture is the first major processing activity. Traditionally, countries “punched” cards, based on the enumeration forms. In the 1980s and 1990s, most countries started keying their data. And, in the first decade of 2000s, more and more countries scanned the collected data.

The data capture materials here include a manual on scanning “vs” keying, a manual on coding requirements, and an office operations manual to help in preparing the questionnaires for scanning or keying. Since CSPro is the most used tool in census processing in the 2010 censuses, a CSPro Data Dictionary is included, based on the UN Principles and Recommendations. Data entry screens for CSPro Data Entry are included, since they will be needed for scanning follow-up if not for the data entry itself. The link to the manual Getting Started for CSPro is included, as are links to the User’s Guide and Helps. Finally, an interactive Powerpoint of the Getting Started is included.
